The Jefferson Awards, Students in Action Program held its annual Spring Leadership Training at Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo on Saturday, March 20. Students from twenty-one Jefferson Awards, Students in Action schools attended the training. In February, each of these student leadership teams presented a power point explaining the work they had done in promoting community service in their schools over the past year. A panel of judges from the National Jefferson Awards Program listened to the presentations, questioned the students and determined which schools were deserving of recognition for their efforts. Carondelet High School, along with Oakland Military Institute, was selected as first place winners and will represent the State of California at the National Ceremonies to be held in Washington, DC in June. Justine Bie and Courtney Gegg, the senior leaders, along with Mrs. O'Leary, their moderator, will attend the ceremonies as guests of the Jefferson Awards Program. Any Student in Action Leader and her family are welcome to attend the ceremonies at their own expense.

Carondelet Student Leaders were also asked to make a presentation on effective fundraising on the day of the Spring Training. Since a softball tournament kept one senior leader from attending the Training and the Junior Prom took priority for the juniors, three sophomore assistants, Anabella Fosbery, Sophie Ipsen and Ashley See assisted senior, Justine Bie in making the presentation. They were so effective in describing their success on behalf of Get On The Bus that the student leaders from Arroyo High School want to take on a fundraising project for Get On The Bus next year.

The Jefferson Awards, Students in Action Leadership Team held its final ceremony on April 21 in the gym. Justine Bie and Courtney Gegg, the senior leaders passed the Jefferson Award symbol to Carolyn Fluehr, Geraldine Jorge, Katie Miyakado and Grace Olson who will lead the team in the next school year. Dr. Hurlbut and Jodie Russi, our Jefferson Awards Coach, presented the freshmen Jefferson Awards for continuous service to Rosemary Cook and Kayleigh Hunt. The Awards for special projects were presented to Ashley Dominici and Mahnoor Umair.
