Deans' Corner

Posted April 23, 2010

Lately, we have been experiencing a surge in the rumor mill. We want to repeat stop the rumors – the Deans are well aware that conflicts between high school age girls are common. Spreading negative comments and rumors is not the school we want our girls to experience. Please have a talk with your daughter about this.

Cell phones – To follow up with our assembly in the Fall three states, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, and Massachusetts have prosecuted teenagers for sending text messages and pictures of themselves and others in explicit or compromising poses. If convicted as adults these boys and girls could be classified as sex offenders.

The internet as we all know can be a valuable asset to our lives, And, as we are learning it can cause concerns in our lives. There is a social networking service called Formspring which allows anonymous messages to be sent to and posted about individuals. Immature and hurtful remarks can be made without the author being held accountable. Please monitor your daughter’s use and reception of the Formspring messages. Our recommendation is that she not be allowed to send or receive messages from this social network. There are other more responsible sites for her to use to keep in touch with her friends.

We are in the process of looking into an organization that offers dances for teens (13-18years old). This organization rents sites in different areas of the Bay Area and invites teenagers to join them by posting invites on My Space and Facebook. Carondelet does not approve of nor endorse any organization outside of our school that sponsors social gatherings for teens. We respectfully recommend that you monitor closely these events.

Senior locker cleaning will be May 14 and Junior, Sophomore and Freshman will clean out their lockers during the last week of May. If you have a graduating Senior it would be greatly appreciated if you would have her bring her slightly used and clean uniform clothes to the Deans’ Office to recycle. Thank you
