The Film Club is a co-curricular opportunity for students to supplement their standard education with the medium of film.
A film has two distinct qualities: technique and theme. The most successful films have interdependence between these two elements. After each viewing, club members discuss these issues. This is an important step for many reasons; sharing our reactions often clarifies and validates personal thoughts’ working together can enable us to reach a higher level of understanding about what we saw, and it creates a community between us.
Our selection of films is focused on finding important independent, foreign and historic films. We want our members to experience an array of visual language [technique and method] as well as become exposed to stories which can inform us on life in this world. A Film Club member has an advantage in that they have entertained a variety of perspective; they are on their way to gaining some global viewpoints.
